Finance Director, PE-Backed Pharmaceuticals Firm, Munich, Germany

Our client is a well-established, yet strongly growing pharmaceutical firm active across more than 25 countries globally. The firm is embarking on an exciting growth path and recently secured the backing of a prominent private equity house. As part of that growth, the firm is now looking to expand its team with an ambitious and driven Finance Director to lead and professionalize the finance and controlling function. In this position, you will report to and work closely with the CEO of the firm. The position will be based in the firm’s headquarters in Munich.


  • Setting-up and leading a highly efficient and lean finance function (Accounting, Controlling), working closely with the CEO
  • Implementing and optimizing best-in-class management information systems and KPIs
  • Coordination and preparation of monthly and annual financial statements (according to HGB and IFRS)
  • Preparation and filing of tax reports, in close cooperation with auditors to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Budget planning and forecasting
  • Reporting financial results to the management board and the shareholders as well as preparing ad-hoc analyses
  • Cash flow and working capital management
  • Continuous improvement and optimization of finance processes as well as controlling instruments and tools to enable strong growth
  • Coordination with relevant internal functions such as supply chain, quality control, IT, legal, regulatory, etc.
  • Main point of contact for the shareholder, auditors and other external service providers  
  • Responsibility for risk management, corporate governance, regulatory filings and compliance
  • Prepare compliance certificates and collaborate with lenders to ensure the company is compliant with all loan documentation-related deliverables


  • Strong academic credentials, ideally with a focus on Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or Controlling
  • Significant relevant work experience gained in the audit department of a professional services firm, preferably with additional experience in an operational accounting or controlling position
  • Previous experience working with Private Equity firm would be highly beneficial
  • Past experience preparing financial statements according to HGB and IFRS
  • Good accounting know-how
  • Excellent MS Office skills (in particular Excel)
  • Strong analytical skills with an affinity to numbers
  • Self-starter, driven to excel in a dynamic set-up
  • A pro-active, and hands-on approach is essential to succeed in this position
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in German and English is a must
