Finance Director, New Private Equity Fund, Brighton, UK

Our client is a private equity investor based in Brighton that specialises in acquiring growing businesses that typically sell services or software to other businesses. They focus mainly on knowledge-based businesses primarily across IT, software, education and training, specialist business services and professional services. On average they typically invest between £20m – £40m in each investment. This can be either initially or over the life of the investment and can be flexible for exceptions at either side of the scale.

With their exciting growth plans, they are now looking to hire a Financial Director to take the day to day lead on all finance and compliance responsibilities. The firm has just successfully raised Fund I and now Fund II is already in sight, meaning this role will grow with the business going forward.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a fund accountant / financial controller who is looking to take a step up in responsibility and seniority and work with a high calibre team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accounting and reporting for the manager and the GPs to include;
    • Internal management reporting
    • Quarterly and annual FCA returns
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Partnership tax returns
    • Payroll, pensions, relevant HMRC returns, Team expenses, VAT returns etc.
    • Banking (e.g. payment and recording of invoices) and cashflow management
    • Adhoc support for other platform operations – e.g. compliance monitoring, company secretarial responsibilities, portfolio tracking
  • Oversight of third-party providers on fund administration, including:
    • Day to day Fund accounting
    • Quarterly investor reporting
    • Investment valuations
    • Fund performance and waterfall calculations
    • Yearly audited financials for the fund legal entities
    • Tax reporting for investors & funds
    • Fund operations and administration
    • Investor queries and resolution

YOUR PROFILE:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ICAS, ACCA, etc.)
  • Degree educated with a 2:1 minimum
  • Experience in a private equity, venture capital or real asset fund
  • Fund finance experience
  • Corporate accounting experience, ideally compliance too
  • Self-starter, not afraid to run with things in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Team player
