About our client

We are partnering with a growing venture capital investor in Cambridge to hire a Head of Finance to lead both the management company and fund finance functions. The role offers the opportunity to oversee and develop the finance function, elevating processes and controls. Working closely with senior management, the Head of Finance will lead a team and act as a strategic business partner, driving operational efficiency, process improvements, and delivering insightful financial analysis across the group and fund operations. The role will also lead initiatives in technology and automation, while ensuring a strong, transparent communication framework with investors. 
What the job involves

  • Provide strategic leadership over all finance and accounting operations across the group and fund structures, ensuring scalability, robustness, and best practice as the business grows
  • Own the delivery of high quality, timely financial reporting for senior management, investors, and external stakeholders, supporting effective decision making at board and investment committee level
  • Lead and develop the fund finance function, with ultimate responsibility for the financial management of investment funds, including valuations oversight, performance reporting, capital activity, treasury management, and fund level controls
  • Act as a key strategic partner to investment teams, supporting due diligence and transaction execution, and advising on financial, structuring, and tax implications across investment lifecycles
  • Collaborate closely with operational and senior leadership teams to drive financial discipline, improve business performance, and support strategic initiatives
  • Lead group level financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes, providing commercial insight and strategic recommendations to the executive team and board
  • Design, implement, and oversee a strong financial control environment, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements, accounting standards, and industry best practice
  • Manage and influence senior external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, tax advisors, regulators, and other third party service providers
  • Lead and mentor a high performing finance team, promoting accountability, succession planning, and continuous professional development
  • Own group and fund tax strategy across relevant jurisdictions, including oversight of complex structuring and bespoke tax arrangements
  • Responsibility for compliance across all fund and corporate tax filings, advising the business on tax policy, regulatory developments, and coordinating with external advisors
  • Partner with Legal on regulatory filings and governance matters, ensuring ongoing adherence to regulatory obligations
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for investors on fund financial matters helping to maintain strong long term investor relationships

Who we are looking for

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior finance leadership role within venture capital or private equity environments
  • Proven track record of building, managing, and leading high performing finance teams
  • A strategic thinker with strong commercial and financial acumen, capable of contributing meaningfully to the growth and long term success of the firm and its portfolio companies
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail and a strong focus on data driven decision making
  • Highly organised with strong time management skills, able to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines across different jurisdictions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear, concise, and impactful manner
  • A committed and effective mentor, playing a pivotal role in the ongoing development of a high performing finance team
  • Highly proficient in financial systems and technology, including advanced Excel capabilities and the ability to leverage tools to drive efficiency and insight
