About our client

Our client is a leading US-based direct lending firm focused on providing first line senior debt financing to lower middle market companies. With offices across major U.S. financial hubs and a global investor relations footprint they have built a strong reputation for disciplined underwriting, deep sponsor relationships, and consistent execution. 

The Director of Origination will play a critical role in sourcing and executing new investment opportunities, with a primary focus on building and managing relationships with private equity sponsors. This individual will be responsible for driving deal flow, leading transactions from initial screening through closing, and contributing to portfolio oversight. The role offers significant autonomy, visibility, and the opportunity to be a key contributor to the firm’s continued growth.

What the job involves

• Managing and developing relationships with private equity sponsors to originate high-quality transaction opportunities
• Sourcing, screening, and evaluating new investment opportunities across acquisitions, refinancings, recapitalizations, and growth financings
• Leading deal execution, including structuring transactions and negotiating terms with sponsors and borrower management teams
• Managing the internal investment approval process, including preparation and presentation of materials to the investment committee
• Spearheading due diligence efforts, coordinating third-party providers, and leading diligence meetings and calls
• Overseeing legal documentation review and negotiation in partnership with internal and external counsel
• Monitoring existing portfolio companies, including attending board meetings as an observer and engaging with sponsors and management as needed
• Collaborating closely with investment, portfolio management, and senior leadership teams to support firm-wide objectives

Who we are looking for

• A bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record
• Significant number of years of professional experience, including considerable experience within a buy-side credit fund, direct lending platform, leveraged finance group, or debt capital markets team at an investment bank
• Demonstrated success originating and executing private credit transactions, with a proven ability to drive the deal process end-to-end
• Strong sponsor coverage experience and an established network within the private equity community
• Excellent financial modeling and credit analysis skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence interfacing with sponsors, management teams, and internal stakeholders
• A self-directed and commercially minded professional who can operate independently in a fast-paced environment
• Targeted all in compensation is $850,000
