About our client

Our client is an active buy-and-build platform in the TICC services sector backed by a buy-and-build-experienced private equity investor with great funding and is targeting 3–5 acquisitions per year, due to its strong deal flow. The Head of M&A will drive the group's inorganic growth from first approach through to signing, owning the pipeline, managing relationships with business owners, and steering the entire process. The role works closely with the CEO (origination and relationships with potential targets) and the CFO (structuring, larger deals), and will be responsible for leading a junior M&A professional. The Operations team leads the integration of acquisitions, allowing the Head of M&A to focus fully on dealmaking. The team is based in Munich, with occasional, but not weekly, travel.
What the job involves

  • Own the pipeline: personal sourcing, direct outreach to business owners, and building and maintaining relationships with them, bringing in the CEO when needed
  • You will manage the entire process from initial approach through to closing, keeping an overview of all live deals
  • Mandate and manage search advisors and M&A boutiques, briefing, pipeline reviews, and results
  • Negotiate LOIs and SPAs
  • Develop the deal structure, negotiate it, and present it to the CEO and CFO for decision
  • Understand the relevant markets and identify the right targets
  • Provide functional leadership for the M&A Associate
Who we are looking for

  • Several years of relevant M&A experience, either in a corporate M&A function, private equity, M&A advisory, or a comparable buy-and-build platform
  • Several transactions completed end-to-end and with full ownership, ideally small-cap deals involving owner-managed businesses
  • Strong analytically, able to keep track of many things at once, and calm under pressure
  • Direct experience approaching business owners and shareholders, with confidence in first contact and an ability to build resilient relationships quickly
  • Experience in own-sourcing and in managing search advisors
  • A hands-on approach: comfortable in the detail, highly self-driven, and able to push through difficult phases of a process, as well as energy and drive to build and move something forward
  • An instinct for solving problems while they are still small, rather than waiting for them to grow
  • Sharp, direct, and to the point and a sense of humour 
  • Fluency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Fluency in German and English
