We are working with a leading growth and buyout investment firm, with a well-established European presence. Focusing on investments into businesses within the technology sector and, with over two decades of experience, the team have a strong track record in executing investments across a flexible mandate, which allows for a tailored strategy in various market conditions. The firm takes a collaborative approach to its partnerships with management teams, driving growth through strategic and operational support.
 
The team are looking to expand its coverage of the Nordic region with an experienced local hire, to focus on the origination of new deals. You will be responsible for managing relationships with both advisors and management team to ensure the team have full visibility of relevant deals coming to market. This is a unique opportunity as the first hire into the region of a well-established global firm. You will have the opportunity to shape the local presence and build on the team's existing network.
 
You will be based in Stockholm, Copenhagen or possibly London, with the expectation of regular travel across the Nordic region and to London, where the European team is based.

What the job involves

• Drive and maintain direct origination focus across the team, through (i) direct origination (regular screening, prioritisation, and meetings), and (ii) establishing a program of outbound “sector/regional” origination initiatives
• In-depth analysis of sectors of interest agreed with the investment team, identifying key trends and themes upon which to base new investment opportunities
• The creation of ‘market maps’ – lists of companies operating in specific sectors and sub-sectors of interest
• Working as part of the investment team to generate ideas for new adjacent sector investments
• Nourishing and development of relationships with external advisors (M&A bankers, lawyers, executive search firms, sector experts etc.), both to create deeper understanding of specific sectors and to identify and catalyse engagement with target businesses
• Make initial approaches to CEO’s, directors and shareholders of target companies, initiating first contact with businesses, seeking to understand what needs and objectives they are looking to achieve, and educating businesses about how the firm can help
• Setting up and attending management meetings and presentations to develop the firms relationship with key decision makers, working alongside members of the investment team
• Attending events, meetings and conferences to build a network and propagate the firm’s differentiated offering
• Generating ideas and themes for outbound marketing collateral.
• Active contribution to regular weekly/monthly investment team discussions on potential investment opportunities and wider areas of investment

Who we are looking for

• Previous origination experience within an investment environment e.g. a private equity or venture capital firm, or M&A experience with an established and leverageable network from investment banking  
• Strong academic background
• Demonstrated ability to identify target companies, establish contact with target companies both in volume and with custom, thoughtful messaging, the ability to build and nurture relationships, and advance target opportunities through the funnel to close
• Understanding of technology businesses and strong judgment to evaluate them in an investment capacity
• Experience and an existing network in the Nordic region
• A strong team player with the confidence to liaise with counterparties at all levels of seniority and therefore requires gravitas and impactful communication skills
• Understanding and experience of market assessment and business analysis
• “Self-starter” with ability to manage the region and become the go-to person
• Enthusiasm for private equity and happy to go the extra mile
